zC's 100 Games To Play Before You Die: Pt. 8
Published 2009-05-03 6:00PMWelcome to the eighth part of zConnection’s 100 Games To Play Before You Die, where we will be giving you a low-down of the 100 games (in no particular order) that any self-respecting gamer must play before their personal “Game Over”. From Asteroids to Half-Life, Bust-A-Move to The Longest Journey, expect to see a few familiar faces… and a few unfamiliar ones.
Super Mario 64

Super Mario 64 brought the beloved Mario franchise into three dimensions for the first time on Nintendo’s successful Nintendo 64. Loved by gamers and critics, the game became an instant hit and made story a much more prominent part of Mario games, heralding an era of more story-driven Mario games such as Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG. When rumours of a sequel to the game entitled Super Mario 128 emerged, fan reaction was incredibly positive. People were expecting an official announcement any day: something which unfortunately never came, even though Shigeru Miyamoto seemed to promise it every single year. Parts of the Super Mario 128 concept were recycled into the games Super Mario Sunshine, which had mixed reactions from critics, and Super Mario Galaxy, a well-received Wii game featuring Mario in space.
While we’ve still not seen a sequel to the original, an upgraded remake was released on Nintendo’s portable Nintendo DS, simply named Super Mario 64 DS. On that note, we end the eighth part of this article. Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for the next part!
