From Asteroids to Half-Life, Bust-A-Move to The Longest Journey, expect to see a few familiar faces… and a few unfamiliar ones.

Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus

Shadow of the Colossus is a game which really stands out amongst most other PS2 titles. Developed by Team Ico, the same team that brought you, well, the fantastic Ico, the game follows a young man called Wander who must defeat the sixteen Colossi in order to bring a girl back to life. And trust us on this one: the Colossi truly are colossal.

The game started development in 2002 with a relatively small team of around forty people. The game was released three years later and sold out almost immediately after release. Shadow of the Colossus has been cited as influencing many major game productions in recent years, including inspiring the artistic development of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The puzzle solving aspect of Colossus is perhaps less subtle than otherwise; each Colossus has a weakness and it’s up to the player to discover it.

Truly awe-inspiring visuals combined with Team Ico’s unique artistic flair makes the game truly remarkable, a gem amongst a truckload of PlayStation 2 shovelware. This truly is a game to play before you die. And with that, don’t forget to check back tomorrow for the 21st part and a special announcement!
