Bargains of the Week: 22nd October

Published 2009-10-22 4:27AM

Welcome to the first instalment of Bargains of the Week, in which we pick out the latest savings on games every Thursday and advise you on the best purchases possible. Today we’ll be predominantly looking at items from Amazon.co.uk’s half-term sale, which unfortunately means that the majority of items will not be available to international customers; we’re trying to cater for all our audiences, however, so stay tuned for a European, US and Australian equivalent shortly.

Killing Floor (PC)
Tripwire’s exciting co-operative multiplayer shooter Killing Floor is available for only £10.96 from Amazon.co.uk. Not sure about committing to the purchase? Well, you can let Steam’s upcoming Killing Floor free weekend change your mind in that regard.

The House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii)
This creative, hilarious and gory arcade shooter is available on Wii from Amazon.co.uk for an incredibly low £11.19. If you disliked the previous Wii House of the Dead adventures, don’t use that as a reason to dismiss this title so soon; they’re very different games, with different appeal. Oh, and it contains the most profanity ever seen heard in a video game.

Gears of War (Xbox 360)
The Gears of War series is one of the best shooting experiences on Microsoft’s console, and while not as impressive as its sequel, the original Gears of War is still a must-have game, and therefore its £5.46 Amazon.co.uk price tag is impossible to pass up. Oh, and there are rumours of Gears of War 3 coming out soon: better polish up on your GoW, yeah?

MadWorld (Wii)
There aren’t many “mature” gaming experiences on Wii, but this stylish black-and-white gorefest is definitely one of the best, if a bit lacking in the replay value department. I wouldn’t be very worried however, as the ridiculously cheap £11.91 Amazon.co.uk price tag is mad in its own way.

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations
The Phoenix Wright series of games are compelling and witty, and the label “courtroom simulation” just doesn’t do them justice. This is the third entry in the series, and sees players take on five new cases featuring the coffee-lovin’ visor-wearin’ prosecutor Godot. A must-have, especially at only £5.95 on Amazon.co.uk.

Gears of War’s price has dropped enough. I think it may be time to finally buy it.
